Story
Nam Sum (Andy
Lau), an instructor of social dances, is gentle and handsome.
He is very good in dancing and very nice to people. His way of teaching
has helped lots of his students regain their confidence.
This is an era when most people lack confidence.
So Nam Sum, being a good instructor,
gives students hope when they are in despair.
But all is a disguise. He
takes all his students as innocent lambs, tempts and cheats them whenever
possible. For all those years, in a
way he is cheating himself as well. Gradually, he forgets the real meaning of dancing, even the meaning of this
life......... till one day he meets Tina (Anita Mui) and Fok Gum (Sandra Ng).
Nam Sum and his assistant, Fei, arrive at a Ball that
is the focus of the whole city, with the intention of finding some new business.
They give their name cards to all the people in the ballroom.
When they see Tina, Nam Sum and Fei agree that this would be their
target. Dancing with Nam Sum, Tina experiences the satisfaction that she has
never had before. When Tina's brother, Jimmy (Edison Chan) finds that dancing
can make his sister happy, he persuades Tina to
take lessons from Nam Sum. At that moment, the waitress, Fok Gum, with Nam Sum's
name card in hand ........
In Nam Sum 's dancing room, there are only a few
students. Fei is worrying that if
it goes on like that, their business would not survive for long. Then Fok Gum
comes into the dancing room. Nam
Sum immediately sweet-talks Fok Gum to join his class. Simple-minded Fok Gum feels every word from Nam Sum brightens
her life, and believes that dancing can bring back her self confidence........
However the arrival of Tina dampens Fok Gum's hope,
because Tina is willing to pay high price for all of Nam Sum's private time.
She wants to learn dancing and asks him to be her partner for Christmas
Ball. Although Nam Sum feels that
Tina is rather mean, thinking about his own great debts, he dares not criticize
Tina.......
Fok Gum is a work-holic. When she learns that Nam Sum needs a part time to clean the
dancing room, she thinks that if she works there, she can get close to Nam Sum,
she can earn some money for the dancing class for groups, and also can kill the
time. Nam Sum thinks that Fok Gum
is silly as she doesn't mind to be paid so little but for long hours.
Fok Gum does a good job in cleaning and she gets all she hopes
for. So Nam Sum and Fok Gum has a
relation of instructor and student, employer and employee.
As they see each other night and night, feels her life is so colorful.
However, Nam Sum is only keen in calculating how much he has saved
monthly........
The arrogant Tina under the influence of cheerful Fok
Gum , becomes friendly too. But both of them fall in love with Nam Sum. With a
common discussion topic, they become good friends. Tina brings Nam Sum to the ball, her way of approach annoys
Nam Sum further........ when Nam Sum returns to his dancing room, trying to release his frustration, he drinks and dances with Fok Gum.
They cooperate so well in their dancing that
they feel very happy. When
Nam Sum realizes that Fok Gum loves him, he refuses her.
All of a sudden Fok Gum loses all her self confidence she has just
regained. Fok Gum leaves in disappointment, while Nam Sum suffers a feeling of loss........
After his dance with Fok Gum, Nam Sum realizes
that the essence of dancing is not money. Among
love, money and dancing, he finally makes his choice………
